Declutter Your Home – 3 Tips to Get You Started
It’s easy for homes to get cluttered up and filled with unnecessary items and belongings. These days we make a lot of purchases, and many of these things, such as clothing, books and magazines, can end up causing quite a bit of disarray in the home. If you’ve reached the point where you are ready for a clean slate – ready to declutter your home and get organized, now is the time to do it. Of course, you don’t want to tackle any project without a plan, so here are a few tips to get you started off on the right foot with your home organization project.
How To Organize Your House
Give Yourself an Incentive
If you can make a profit from your clean up efforts, you will probably be more motivated to see it through to completion. These days, you can easily sell unwanted or unused items on Internet auction sites like eBay. You could also have a yard sale to make some money from your stuff. So start off your decluttering project as a profit making effort. Find all of the things in your home that you want to sell and get them all into one location. Books, CDs, DVDs, clothes… There is really no limit to what sells at the online auctions, so get your sell pile together, get the items online, and start to make some money from them.
Throw Away Time
Start off with your closets. You will have to be brutally efficient and willing to do what it takes, but find any clothes or shoes that you haven’t worn for the last year. Take those items and either throw them away or take them to the local charity foundation to give them to the less fortunate. If you haven’t worn something in a year, chances are you won’t wear it any time soon, so get rid of those old clothes. After you’ve done this, do the same with books, magazines, movies and toys. Pick a day to do each and get rid of everything you will not use again.
Put it Back Together
By this point, you should have cleared out quite a bit of space in your home. And you may even have some extra cash from selling some things. Take a bit of that money and invest in some new containers to store any seasonal clothes that are out of season. After that is done, start reorganizing. Find a logical place for each item and put things where they should go. Use this time to develop a system for staying organized. You might be able to dedicate one closet or shelf in your home to future sales or charity giveaways. That way you will perpetually be in the act of keeping things organized.
Once you get the idea for decluttering your home in mind, don’t hesitate. Start immediately, and capitalize on the momentum. Before you know it, you’ll have a neat, organized home that is much easier to live in and deal with.
